New Sunshine Coast Coles supermarket brings 40 new jobs

Coles will create 80 new job opportunities including 40 new recruits when it opens a new supermarket at Sippy Downs on Saturday following a large community event held on Friday evening.

19 JANUARY 2018

For the first time on the Sunshine Coast, Coles will host a free Community Carnival on Friday from 5pm to celebrate the new store opening.

Hundreds of locals are expected to attend and join the celebrations, which will include Slideshow Alley featuring free rides, games and fun for the kids, supplier sampling, former My Kitchen Rules contestants, Chris and Cookie cooking demonstrations and fireworks.

The new store will feature an in-store bakery, gourmet delicatessen and cheese wall, butcher, and a coffee cart— so that shoppers can enjoy a coffee while they embark on their grocery shop expedition.

Coles State General Manager Paul Bradshaw said the new store was part of an investment of more than $21 million in the Sunshine Coast in the past three years, including new and renewed supermarkets in Maroochydore, Nambour, Mooloolaba, Pelican Waters, Peregian Springs and North Shore.

“As part of our investment in the area, we’re pleased to create local employment opportunities and in the past three years, Coles has recruited more than 250 team members on the Sunshine Coast,” Paul said.

“We’re looking forward to opening a Coles supermarket in Sippy Downs to offer customers more variety and choice.”

Coles Sippy Downs Store Manager Brad Stewart has been with Coles for around 20 years and said he is eager to share the new supermarket with locals.

“We’re excited to welcome the community into our brand new supermarket — we think they are going to love the open and fresh feel to the store,” he said.

“The departments are going to be fantastic — there’s a lot of behind-the-scenes action on display including bakers working on their benches, butchers cutting up your meat and the delicatessen’s impressive cheese wall. We are also delighted to welcome 40 new recruits and around 40 team members from other stores to make up our new team.”

Customers can also collect their Coles online orders for free at the designated Click&Collect car park. When placing their order, shoppers can select a collection time that suits them, and upon collection a team member will bring their groceries directly to their car boot. Same day collection is available when customers place their order before midday on weekdays and by 8am on weekends.

Located in the car park, the Community Carnival will go from 5-7:30pm on Friday and the new Coles Sippy Downs will officially open to local shoppers at 8am on Saturday, 21 January as a stand-alone supermarket with a neighbouring Liquorland store.
