Coles airlifts emergency fresh produce delivery to Broome

The emergency airlift will deliver 15 pallets of fresh fruit and vegetables and dozens of boxes of UHT milk, totalling 12 tonnes.

Coles has chartered a plane to fly 12 tonnes of fresh produce and milk to the Kimberley after the roads were cut off by floods.

Broome has been cut off from the rest of the Kimberley region after it was battered by a superstorm earlier this week. The downpour caused major damage to roads forcing closures and limiting Coles’ ability to deliver to our Broome and Kununurra supermarkets.

The emergency airlift will deliver 15 pallets of fresh fruit and vegetables and dozens of boxes of UHT milk.

The fresh produce includes apples, pears, bananas, tomatoes, greens and salads.

“We ordered in extra stock of essentials like tinned food and water before the storms to make sure customers could prepare,” West Australia State Manager Pat Zanetti said.

“However fresh food is different as we can’t load up ahead of time, so we’re running very low on fresh food.

“With the roads cut off we’ve organised an emergency airlift to deliver 15 pallets of fresh fruit and vegetables and dozens of boxes of UHT milk.”

Once the shipment arrives at Broome Airport the produce will be trucked to Coles Broome and Kununurra stores, where stocks have significantly depleted.

Coles has also organised a barge to deliver packaged groceries and more fresh milk and that will be arriving on Sunday.
