Coles Kings View wins prestigious Urban Taskforce Award

Two and a half years of painstaking restoration and development by Coles Group Property and Coles Store Development have paid off, with Coles Kings View winning a NSW Urban Taskforce Development Excellence Award for Adaptive Re-Use (click on the attachment link below to view a photo of the store).

Coles Kings View is an adaptive re-use of the original heritage Rose Bay North Cinema, an art deco icon. The project aimed to create an innovative and unique mixed use concept integrating a state of the art Supermarket and commercial and residential apartments. The design incorporated restored heritage features allowing the different uses to blend cohesively with the art deco style of the original cinema and neighbouring properties.

The development posed many challenges for the Property Development Team due to the site's physical constraints, heritage requirements and construction complications. Restoring the cinema structure to meet the commercial expectations of Coles Supermarkets whilst simultaneously restoring the heritage elements required broad minds and a flexible approach.

However, the hard work paid off with Coles Group Property Developments last week awarded the Urban Taskforce Development Excellence Award. The award was based on the project's innovation, consideration to lifecycle planning, approach to problem solving, excellent urban design principles and the overall benefits the project brought to the community. Both the Property Development team, led by Mark Jamieson, and the Store Development team led by Reg Binding are to be congratulated on this outstanding achievement.
